"Canada Day" July 2016 IPMS Ottawa Contest

These are the entries to the IPMS Ottawa, "Canada Day" theme, July 2016, monthly contest.

1st Place Winner - CS2F-2 Tracker in RCN colours. Hasegawa 1/72 scale kit. The aircraft crashed on takeoff from the aircraft carrier HMSC Bonaventure on 16 February 1969 killing all three crew.

2nd Place Winner - Canadian Army Leopard 2A6M main battle tank with protective screens as deployed in Afghanistan. Hobby Boss 1/35 scale kit #82458.

3rd Place Winner - LCdr Montgomery Scott figure from Star Trek TV series. Ertl 1/6 scale kit. The actor who played Scottie was a decorated Canadian artillery soldier who was on Juno Beach at D-Day.

DH-100 Vampire FB5, in RCAF 421 Sqdn markings, and an experimental use of the new water-based Vallejo metalic paints. Cyber-Hobby 1/72 scale kit #5085.

Canadian in that it is painted red and white? Monogram 1/24 scale sports car.

Bristol Blenheim which is actually another airplane (a Bollingbroke) as Airfix scanned and moulded the wrong airframe when preparing the new kit. Airfix 1/72 scale kit #A04017.

Stay Tuned for CANADA DAY Contest in July

Stay Tuned for the IPMS Ottawa CANADA DAY contest next month (Wednesday 06 July 2016) when all entries are in some way related to Canada - served in, built in, etc. Get your models ready!
This is a 1/72 scale Hobbycraft (Canada) kit of the Canadair Sabre Mk4 in service with RCAF 444 Squadron. Aircraft VH-584 as it appeared from about late 1953 to early 1954

June 2016 IPMS Ottawa Contest

These are the entries to the IPMS Ottawa, June 2016, monthly contest.


1st Place winner - D&RGW Pile Driver OB railway cars in 1/48 scale from San Juan Car Company. The real one was built in 1891 and is now operating on the Cumbres & Toltec RR. Injection molded in gray styrene with free-rolling trucks,  working Sharon couplers, hinged tower and working rollers for upper frame. 600+ parts


2nd Place - Bristol Beaufighter TF-X Torpedo Bomber (RAF Coastal Command) in 1/48 scale from Tamiya TM61067


3rd Place - Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. J (Sd.kfz.162/2) in 1/35 scale from Tamiya 35181 built out of box.

May 2016 IPMS Ottawa Contest

These are the entries to the IPMS Ottawa, May 2016, monthly contest.

1st Place -  Skoda PA-II (Turtle) in 1/35 scale by Takom. The Czech designed armoured car got the unofficial name Zelva (tortoise) as it entered service in 1923. Only 12 were ordered and built in 1924-1925. Takom #2024.



2nd Place -  Douglas C-124 Globemaster II in 1/72 scale by Anigrand Craftswork #2067.

Bren Gun Carrier & 6 pound gun in 1/35 scale by Tamiya.
Sd.Klz 221 armoured car in 1/35 scale by Tamiya with Hobby Boss screen.
