February 2019 IPMS Ottawa Model Contest

It was swap meet night so we had a large turnout despite the atrocious weather, but sadly only seven models in the competition.However, members bought and traded hundreds of dollars in kits. Now we have to see if they build them or just add them to their growing collections.

FIRST PLACE
This is a 1:35 scale Tamiya kit of the U.S. Medium Tank - M4A3E8 Sherman. Shown in colours used by the US Army in the USA-Korea War (1950-1953).

SECOND PLACE
This 1:24 scale Olds88 was the very first ribbon winner by the builder. Congratulations to him for his work on the very accurate representation of the Olds Rocket 88 which drove the Mexican Pan-American 2178 mile stock car race 5-11 May 1950.

THIRD PLACE
This is a 1:72 scale Ace Models build of the FV-4005; a British Army planned ultra-heavy-gun tank meant to challenge Soviet tanks in post-WWII Europe. Only one sample was built, and remains at the Bovington tank museum. The red flag means it is live firing on the range.

The only real one, in 1956.

This is what the most up-to-date scientific research has revealed
dinosaurs actually looked like in real life. 

Terrible Lizards! These are unknown scale (possibly 1:35 or 1:45 or who knows?) dinosaur models from an unnamed Chinese toy company purchased for $2 each. The running dinosaur is a tyrannosaurus rex, and the horned lady is a triceratops. They lived in what is now Canada from about 68 000 000 years ago to about 66 000 000 years ago during the late Cretaceous period (about 2:15 in the afternoon). Each took one day to complete.

This is the 1:egg scale Meng World War Toons 2016 release of a U.S. Medium Tank M 4A1 Sherman. The builder said it was his first completed kit in twenty years. Nice job. Welcome back!
