February 2017 IPMS Ottawa Contest

These are the entries to the IPMS Ottawa, February 2017, monthly contest (ad hoc theme).

First Place Winner - Roden 1:72 scale GOTHA Gil w/n 389/16 Bomber,  Kagoshi 2, Staffel 19, Balkan front, late 1916. With wire rigging. 


Second Place Winner - Tamiya 1:48 scale HAWKER HURRICANE Mk-2. Out of box.



Third Place Winner - 1:24 scale 2014 CORVETTE "Rat Rod" built by a first-time winner at IPMS Ottawa. Congratulations!



Meng 1:72 scale  - Mansyu Ki-98 experimental ground attack aircraft. Kit #DS-002.

Academy 1:72 scale - MUSTANG from 441 Squadron, done in Alclad paint. Flaps have been scribed out and dropped to the proper ground position. Scratchbuilt tail fillet. Added resin seat and vacuform canopy. IPMS Canada decal sheet.
Italeri 1:72 scale - MUSTANG Mk-1 from RCAF 414 Squadron. Flaps have been scribed out and dropped to the proper ground position. Decals by IPMS Canada and Extradecal.

Zvezda 1:35 scale - M-72 MOTORCYCLE with sidecar, Red Army circa 1943.


Peerless 1:35 scale - Nazi STYER RSO/01 tractor, Russian front 1943.


Otaki 1:35 Panzer III - Nazi scum being captured at the battle of El Alamein


Zvezda 1:48 scale Bf-109f4 copied from the real one at the Canadian Aviation Museum, featuring some custom made decals. Used Vallejo paints masked with damp paper.



On display at this contest was this greatly-admired diorama in 1:72 scale showing the night-bombing shoot-down of a Halifax bomber crewed by the relative of the model builder.
Lighting in the gunfire and engine fire is from fibre-optic wires.
